I’m an excavator. A writer, designer and student of depth psychology interested in systems of thought, particularly the more hidden ones.
I’m a lifelong lover of books and reading is one of my favorite things to do.
I sometimes see myself as a large, excited dog snuffling through the forest, following a scent trail. Looking for blood? Maybe.
I follow my my nose as long as the thing is interesting and I’ll go as deep as my nose tells me to go. (Picture this dog occasionally digging with abandon.)
Everything I love has been found and made that way.
…and it’s the current generation of reporting out the ideas I find while digging around.
How certain people dream together through romance novels. (I've read 800+ and I see cultural patterns.)
enterWhat systems of energy pulse through us across moments, and how we might name it, understand it a bit, in a bigger human context.
enterA map of some hidden systems of thought that I might explore more deeply someday.
enterAn outgoing link to a personal observation website I've had for almost a decade which is about watching and being with time differently, along with some invented words, because I like doing that, too.
visit scintillusThe website as an art medium is magic. That’s why this is here: my take on the animating sparkle.
I write this website. These are my words. That said, I do use AI as a partner in the prototyping and refining of my work. I don't outsource my thinking, I read voraciously for much of my content, but I deepen it with AI partnership.
Example: Archetypal Currents are my creation and I've spent hours, weeks, making and refining all aspects of it (concept, content, intention, tone, visuals, interaction model, etc), but it uses AI as the engine. AI develops and makes prototypes which allow me to see the idea outside of my head, to play and curate in a totally new way. It wouldn't exist without AI, not from me...or it would've taken me a year to make a realistic-enough prototype just to see it in action, and thus would never have been created because I also have to raise my child and go to my full time job and care for my body and maintain some semblance of friendships, as well as juggle other nascent ideas.
I know the AI space is deeply problematic. I do not feel this is a simple issue. However, I also think positive partnerships with it are a counterbalance to the negative, world-ending shit that looms above us all, and I choose participation rather than denial. AI is not going to go away, it's everywhere now, so let's drive it right. Let's create the partnership in consciousness.
I hear certain wealthy voices say they "say no to almost everything" and I think that they have wives (or equivalent), they have very plentiful resources to support their radical focus, and I feel the coals of my middle-aged rage flare a bit at their casual display of privilege. Women rarely say this, poor people even less.
So saying that, should I have to choose? Is it yes/no for AI usage, simple as that? (It's not.)
If you argue that I should opt out of it for art, then let's consider that this choice leaves me bereft of the types of art I wish to pursue. The type of art I pursue is my choice, not a cultural mandate. I use AI because it offers a pathway into to depth visions that working solo, just me—which has been the last 25+ years of my creative life—I have never been able to achieve to date.
I'm interested in the animated, living art, that which draws from dynamic sources, changing over time. Work with, maybe, a literal spark inside.
